STATESBORO- From pottery to produce and plenty of products in between, the Statesboro Farmers Market is a great place to get delicious and unique items.

The pet-friendly market was packed with over 60 vendors on its opening day Saturday, including local farm stands, baked goods, food trucks, artisans, plants and much more.

The market runs from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. every Saturday behind the Statesboro Visitor Center on North Main Street.

Produce stands, like Jacobs Produce, sell fresh, local vegetables to visitors for an affordable price.

I spoke to a few people who said they buy produce at the farmers market because they trust the product and seller more. Also, it seems to be cheaper than the grocery store.

Don Jacobs, co-owner of Jacob’s Produce, says many people feel more comfortable buying local for a reason.

“When you get it from a local farmer you know what’s in it,” said Jacobs. “You know where it’s sourced from.”

There are plenty of options for purchasing produce at the market, including the “Georgia Fresh for Less” EBT/ Snap program.

The Georgia Fresh for Less program provides a matching number of fruits and vegetables for every EBT dollar spent, so users of EBT get twice as much.

A service known as “Farmers Market 2 Go” is also offered during the Farmer’s Market season during the on and off-season as well.

This service allows people to order produce online between Friday at 10 a.m. and Tuesday at 10 p.m. People can then pick the produce up on Thursday between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Pickup locations for Market 2 Go are available in Statesboro, Sylvania, and Pembroke.

There are also plenty of crafty products to check out like Lois Harvey’s pottery pop-up shop.

Harvey had plenty of pottery pieces ranging from mini mugs to pitchers. Every one of the pieces was crafted and hand-painted by her.

The market had food trucks like Caribbean Feast and the Three Tree trolley available to grab a coffee or pastry.

The Farmer’s market season lasts from April into November, and the market will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
